What a delight it was to work with this couple from Washington, D.C., who held their green and sustainable wedding weekend to include: wedding rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, wedding ceremony, wedding reception as well as post wedding brunch at Camp Puh’tok in Monkton, Maryland, with 150 of their family and friends, some of whom were lucky enough to receive last minute offers to attend after rsvp regrets were received.
While this rustic setting isn’t for everybody as there’s a fair amount of work that’s involved in getting the lodge wedding reception picture perfect, it does provide an incredible value to those who don’t want to just have a wedding night, but an entire wedding weekend. Documentary Associates, a husband and wife documentary wedding and family photography company located in Bethesda, Maryland, did an amazing job of not only capturing the couple’s beautiful wedding and inspiring setting, but all the hard work of this smart and savvy DIY couple who with the organized help of family and friends, transformed the humble Thunderbird Lodge into a beautiful, green wedding reception setting.
Having a locally sourced and sustainable menu was a top priority for this October foodie couple, one which highlighted bold fall flavors. Menu development conversations between Chef Jacki and Rachel inspired the chef to incorporate into the menu the bride’s recent discovery of pickled golden raisins, a recipe found on the food blog One Hungry Mama, an ingredient component that was then fused into a lovely buffet side dish–End of Summer Grilled Zucchini and Summer Squash with Pickled Golden Raisins and Mint. This deliciously inspired ingredient has made its way onto other Patchwork Catering menu creations such as Winter Pork Loin Roast with Pickled Golden Raisins and Sautéed Apples in Red Wine Sauce as well as the Italian classic Caponata Salad.
